PROFESSIONAL APPROACH
Kinesitherapy is a natural and holistic approach grounded in biomechanics and functional rehabilitation principles. It focuses on movement quality, functional balance, and musculoskeletal well-being.
Interventions aim to support the person as a whole, recognizing the relationship between posture, mobility, lifestyle, and physical function.
Kinesitherapy does not replace medical care or diagnosis. It complements existing health practices by supporting movement, comfort, and functional capacity.
ACTIVE AND PASSIVE KINESITHERAPY
Kinesitherapy may involve two complementary modalities:
PASSIVE KINESITHERAPY
Movement applied to the body by the practitioner or with the assistance of instruments, including mobilizations, stretching, and manual techniques.
ACTIVE KINESITHERAPY
Movement performed by the individual, guided by the practitioner, to encourage functional integration, awareness, and autonomy in movement.
KINESITHERAPY
The following definition is drawn from the Grand dictionnaire terminologique of the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF):
Kinesitherapy is a therapeutic modality based on the use of movement for the purposes of treatment and functional rehabilitation.
It may be classified as:
Active kinesitherapy, in which the movement is performed by the individual; or
Passive kinesitherapy, in which the movement is applied to the individual either directly by the practitioner or with the assistance of an instrument or device. Passive kinesitherapy includes mobilizations, manipulations, stretching, massage, and related therapeutic techniques.
Kinesitherapy is employed within the framework of physical re-education and functional rehabilitation to restore, maintain, or improve mobility and physical function.
